DANESH PATEL CELEBRATES WITH NBS BANK TITLE

VETERAN golfer Dinesh Patel won his first golf championship of the year by triumphing the NBS Monthly Mug at Country Club Limbe with 68 points.

Patel shrugged off strong opposition from former development golfer Paul Chidale who settled for second position with 70 points.

Chidale was in line for the title but was betrayed by his front nine performance.

He scored a brilliant three under par on back nine but registered one over par on front to give Patel the victory with two shots.

The monthly Mug would have taken place in April but it was rescheduled in respect of the mourning period for former President -Bingu Wa Mutharika who died on April 5.

Chidale also counted out B Raidhan who also scored 70 points to finish on second position.

In ladies category, Agnes Chimweche beat other six golfers to win the title with 73 points while Maggie Mukwenha grabbed the other prize winning slot with 75 points on second position.

Patel said he was impressed to have won the competition with two points.

"I played my usual game but winning with two shots it's not easy," Patel said.

He also applauded NBS for continuing to sponsor the competition.

"1 would like to thank NBS for sponsoring the Monthly Mug," he said.

Chimweche also said NBS had offered her an opportunity to improve her game.

"I would like to thank the sponsor for awarding new golfers like myself," Chimweche said.

Country Club golf captain Gilbert Chirwa said the competition attracted an impressive field of 97 golfers.

"The turnout was impressive. In fact we had more golfers who wanted to play," Chirwa said.

NBS marketing officer Lilian Kawaza said they were happy to see lady golfers turning out for the tournament. NBS will hold another competition this June
