The champion Huang said it was an honour for him to win the prestigious title because very good golf was played by all in a competitive spirit. "I thank NBS Bank for affording us this opportunity to enjoy our golf and I am looking forward to the next tournament. "I am going to continue working harder to retain this trophy beginning with the Monthly Mugs," he said.
NBS' Deputy Chief Executive Gilford Kadzakumanja said they were pleased to sponsor the monthly mugs that culminates into the mug of mugs and they would continue to be associated with CCL by starting the monthly qualifiers next month.
"I want to assure you that NBS will sponsor the tournament again next year," he said amid a huge round of applause. "NBS is getting better and better and so should golf get better and better.
"We are the first bank to reduce lending rate and we are geared to give you first class services all the time including this golf sponsorship," he said.
CCL's new captain Joe Swankie, who has taken over from Don Whayo, said they were pleased to have NBS Bank as their sponsor. "This is the fourth year NBS Bank has sponsored us and we thank you profoundly for being a great supporter of Country Club JJmbe," said Swankie, who later received K.100,000 from NBS for course maintenance. Supporting the event were several Zomba golfers that included Matthews Mbewe, Hanleck Chamangwana, Charles Mukiwa and Richards Mkwapatira.
Mukiwa said it was an exciting tournament and they were happy to have graced it, saying they do so to appreciate the support that Blantyre and Limbe give to Gymkhana Club. "We are starved of sponsorship in Zomba and we get to improve our golf by coming to play here but at the same time we come here to appreciate the support we receive from Blantyre and Limbe golfers who participate in our tournaments. "At the same time, we come here for the exciting camaraderie that we golfers enjoy and NBS provided us mat chance to enjoy our game," Mukiwa said.
