Abbas wins NBS Monthly Mug

Ahmed Abbas scored 68 points to recod his first NBS Monthly Mug victory at Country Club Limbe on 19th November 2011.

Abbas scored 40 points on front nine and 40 front back to overcome a field of 89 golfers.

He said he was delighted to win his first NBS Monthly Mug title, which has effectively made him qualify for Winner of Winners tournament.

The Winner of Winners tournament attracts the top three golfers of the year and is set for December 3 at Country Club Limbe.

A Mohammed counted back Charles Merrick on 70 points to settle for second position.

The Blantyre Sports Club golfer said he expected to make the cut for the Winner of Winners tournament.

"I played one of the best golf having scored font nine and 40 back nine," Abbas said.

"I am excited because I have been trying to win this tournament."

CCL vice-captain David Phiri applauded NBS for the sponsorship.

"I would like to thank NBS Bank for the sponsorship because they have been with us for a number of years," Phiri said.

"I would like also to thank the golfers who turned out for the competition."

NBS marketing officer Lilian Kawaza said the bank was proud to be associated with the golfers, who are their customers and potential customers.

We made a promise that we will be here this year and we have fulfilled it as we hold the winner of Winners on December 3," Kawaza said.

She also appealed to the golfers to support the bank for it to continue sponsoring the tournament.
