NBS Monthly Mug hands Tsamwa maiden golf tittle
- 23/07/2012
THYOLO Golf Club member Peter Tsamwa made history by winning his first golf championship in his career courtesy of NBS Bank Monthly Mug held at Country Club Limbe on 23 June, 2012.
Tsamwa put up a brilliant performance which saw him having a two over par as his worst score.
The rest were pars and boggies, which took his tally to 67 points and beat 44 other competitors for his historical victory.
"I will be proud of the achievement because I have never won a golf competition since I started three years ago," Tsamwa said.
"I have always been second, third and last week I was so close to winning my first ever competition at Thyolo Golf Club but I was counted out to position two."
He also thanked NBS Bank for continuing to sponsor the competition at Country Club Limbe.
The former sports journalist's victory has also offered him an automatic qualification for Winner of Winners competition which draws the top three monthly winners for the end of year wrap tournament.
Temwa Munthali finished second on 70 points and Suzi Banda made the cut for the Winner of Winners after finishing on third position with 73 points.
But Banda squeezed in after counting out S Huang.
Steve Chanje also had a rare feat after posting a hole in one on 10.
CCL vice-captain David Phiri thanked the bank for the competition and the golfers for sparing their time to participate on a day which held a number of other competitions.
The bank's Merchant Support Officer for South, Mirriam Mchakulu said they were happy to be associated with the golfer fraternity.
"We would like to appreciate the relationship we have with you the golfers both on the golf course and in our banking halls," Mchakulu said.
